Elton John, Forsyth Barr, DunedinElton John was the opening concert at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin, (2012). At the time it was the largest concert ever to be held on the South Island of New Zealand. It was a sold out attendance, with 36000 seats sold.
The stadium had been a 5 year project set against many conflicting opinions in the city. In order to enable future strategies for the stadium's success, it was necessary to quantify the economic impact of the concert, on the city and region. A successful collaboration with Otago University created a positive outcome. The success of the concert and the resulting report, showing huge direct & indirect economic uplift in the city, enabled the development of a content development fund. In time this enabled the stadium to attract other worldwide headline acts such as Ed Sheerin. |
